Short-Term International Student Program “Gunma University 2025 Summer Program” Held
The Gunma University Global Initiative Center hosted a short-term international student reception program from August 25 to 29, 2025, under the theme “Dive into Japan, Explore Gunma!” targeting students from partner universities abroad.
This year, 26 students from universities in Poland, Hungary, Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan participated. Alongside Gunma University students, they visited various sites symbolizing Gunma Prefecture, including the Kiryu-ori Textile Reference Museum, Akagi-style traditional houses at the Gunma Insect Forest, Tomioka Silk Mill, and Konnyaku Park. They experienced activities such as indigo dyeing and making konnyaku jelly, and in the university, they toured research laboratories in science and technology, as well as an autonomous driving research center. They also attended lectures on basic Japanese language, Gunma’s history, and haiku poetry, and took on their first calligraphy experience.
Based on these five days of activities, the participating students, acting as members of a fictional advertising company, brainstormed how to promote Gunma’s tourist attractions in English. They created and presented flyers in groups, effectively culminating the program. Some groups also produced short videos and social media content, which they showcased at the end. Despite the intense heat throughout the activities, the students expressed positive feedback, such as “I made friends from various countries, including Japan.” ”It was more fun than Tokyo.” and “I learned a lot about Japan and Gunma, and I want to come again.”? The flyers will be on display at the atrium lounge on the 2nd floor of the University Hall at the Aramaki Campus until the end of September.
Additionally, we are planning a spring session for this fiscal year. We hope that everyone from partner universities who are interested will definitely participate.
